“Indoor Air Quality, Health & Wellness, and other Trends for Sustainability in the Built Environment”

This session will provide an overview of new trends and drivers for sustainability and ESG goals as they relate to buildings in San Diego. We’ll cover terms like Resiliency, Health & Wellbeing, and Smart Buildings, as well as provide an introduction to Indoor Air Quality best practices and Health & Wellbeing rating systems currently used in the CRE markets.

    1. Building performance and responsible decision-making is increasingly the focus on new rating systems and the built environment marketplace, as seen in the increased desire for ESG reporting.
    2. The paradigm shift towards addressing, mitigating, and adapting to climate disruptions, continues to increase in priority for building ownership and management.
    3. The increased number of rating systems focused on sustainability and now health and wellbeing are harder to navigate.
    4. However, most studies show that a focus on risk management, resource efficiency, and people-centric building operations increased Return on Investment for the building stock, while also impacting NOI.
    5. The LEED rating system continues to be the market leader in the US for sustainability, now paired with WELL and Fitwel as market leaders for health and wellbeing.
